Alwar Balasubramaniam’s work plies at the notions of with time, memory, traces, and locality. Going through a number of his sculptures, paintings and installations Balasubramaniam muses, in this talk, on the issues of the unseen, the unapproachable lingering past, and the contextual matrix which informs the idea of understandings. Balasubramaniam details how his work is meant to explicate and evaluate the construction of meaning through the intersections of human perception and social space of references. Though a bit too much movement weighted to the realm of the “spiritual” this talk does well in its critique the ideas of the object and how unrecognized relations compose and create the nexus of reality.
Cartoonist Liza Donnelly talks about the usage of humor to critique social norms and the gender constructions continually reiterated within our culture.
